Drivers and Requirements
You can add additional drivers at the counter upon pickup. The extra driver(s) must accompany the main driver to the rental desk and present their driver’s license. They should produce paperwork to fill-out at the counter. Some companies charge extra, and some don’t. Our booking system always takes account of your extra drivers when searching for your lowest rate and will book you at the price that works out to the lowest total. Providing identification with a common physical address is proof of ‘Life Partner’ status.
When you study the benefits on our website in the Jeep rental search results, you will see that we have multiple options available wherever the spouse is free or free extra drivers who are not family members. The several options that don’t have free additional drivers can be approximately $13+ per day (exclusive discounted rate).
We have agreements with some of the vehicle rental firms that allow free extra drivers. This bonus can provide meaningful savings if you have additional drivers, so watch for this benefit on RentalJeeps.com when looking at numerous car companies returned in the search results. Look for the rates that show free additional drivers. Extra drivers have to be added to rental contracts at the counter when you arrive to pick up the car (or later during your rental period, if that driver does not need to drive upon arrival). Extra drivers must go with the main driver to the counter and add their name to the contract. The additional driver must provide their own current driver’s license at that time.
Anyone 25 years of age or older can rent a Jeep Wrangler without any age-related charges.
Those aged 20-24 are considered Underage Drivers or Young Drivers (rental car terminology).
The minimum age for a Jeep rental from most of our major national rental partners is 21 years of age. The minimum age to rent is 20 years old with Thrifty and Dollar. All rental car companies will add a Young Driver surcharge for all drivers under the age of 25 years.
Young Drivers may also be limited to full-size cars or smaller at some locations. Fortunately, we have some special rates for Underage Drivers highlighted in red on our website’s booking screen. We have negotiated a reduced 20-24 age young driver fee at just $10/day. Others will charge you $25-$40 per day. Look for these discounted rates as you search.
Unfortunately, the young driver fee will not display in the total when you reserve a Jeep. The cost will eventually be added at the rental desk – plus tax.
Some of our partner companies may not allow a young driver to be a secondary driver but will let a young driver be a primary driver. Make sure you have appropriately booked to get the most suitable option as an Underage Driver.
If you have already booked your Jeep Wrangler on our website, you can reply to the booking confirmation email and ask if your choice is the best option for an Underage Driver.
The DETAILS button on our online booking system and the SEE DETAILS segment on the rental confirmation email you’ll receive has all of the relevant young driver information. If you are considered an Underage Driver (20-24) who is under 25 we recommend you read carefully as some companies restrict payment methods.
Please contact us if you have any Young Driver booking questions.
International travelers need to have two items, their driver’s license, and a passport.
If your driver’s license is not in English, you’ll need three items, an International Drivers License, your primary driver’s license and a passport.
NOTE: You cannot rent a Jeep with only an International Driver’s License.
The rental customer must show a valid driver’s license and be the primary driver on the contract unless the renter is disabled. An International License is required in addition to your regular license if your license is not printed in English. Always bring your passport as well if you are not a US citizen.
Debit/Credit Cards
We require a major credit card or debit card for a security deposit upon pick up. Unfortunately, prepaid cards are not accepted. Your debit card must have either the Visa or MasterCard logo and may only be used in combination with proof of a round trip ticket (cruise or airline) within 72 hours of rental. Customers using debit cards will be subject to a debit card screening. The company debit card must have the renter’s name or signature on the credit card.
Debit card customers need to be age 25+ with most companies.
Local Jeep rental customers may not qualify to use a debit card.
Debits Cards may not qualify for specific vehicles.
Please review the Rental Company’s policy on credit and debit cards in the VIEW DETAILS button on our website’s checkout process.
More about your Confirmed Reservation
Shuttle buses or trams are provided at all of the airports by the rental companies. They commute between the airport and the Jeep rental firm picking up and dropping off travelers. When you obtain your confirmation email from us, follow the SEE DETAILS link, and study the instructions. The specifications for the shuttle should be found there, along with a lot of other related information.
Some off-airport locations will accommodate shuttle pick up at hotels and resorts. Make sure to read the SEE DETAILS link to find out if your Jeep rental offers this type of assistance.
Yes. Once your Jeep is reserved, and you receive a confirmation email from us, your reservation is complete. If you want to re-confirm it, you can click on the link on the confirmation email, and access the reservation details (this asks the car rental company to check the reservation and send back existing information). If you need help, please contact us.
We are unable to modify existing Jeep reservations without affecting the base rate. If your times/dates shift, it is best to start a new reservation and cancel the previous booking. Search our website and book the most suitable Jeep Wrangler for your updated specifications. If rates have gone way up, and you merely need to add a day in the beginning, you can retain your current reservation and book a one-day rental. If you need help you with these changes, we’re here, so if you are not sure what to do, please call us. Once a reservation has been altered by you online, we cannot get your old rate back.
Canceling existing reservations is free and straightforward. When we send you a confirmation, there is a link in the email for you to use to cancel if need be. Do you require assistance? please contact us by responding to the email confirmation, or calling us at 1-888-480-JEEP.
The rental companies change their rates regularly. The prices we provide for you on your search are the rates they offered at the moment of your search. We recommend you book the best rate for your requirements at that time. You can keep checking back on our website, and if you find a lower rate, you may book it and cancel the reservation you made previously.
Quite frequently, prices increase closer to your dates, especially during peak seasons, so it is best to grab a rate to hold (3-12 months ahead of time), so you have a starting point if the rates decrease. Many customers rebook multiple times as rates commonly drop as your travel dates approach.

Jeep Related Questions
Insurance is optional and is available for purchase at the counter. The rental companies have no minimum requirements. Please refer to the terms and conditions page of the rental company you choose for policy and rate information. We suggest you compare to offerings from your current vehicle insurance provider and your credit card company.
Do I require additional Insurance?
You have to determine this by talking to your car insurance company or your credit card company (some credit cards provide coverage when paying the charges with it). We recommended that you have adequate coverage in case you have an accident or are involved in one.
There are several types of insurances offered at the rental desk.
One covers the vehicle (CDW); another includes the people that may be harmed (SLI). Others cover options like the rental company’s cost since Jeeps cannot be rented at the same time they are under repair (Loss of Use), and circumstances like flat tires, towing, lost keys (Roadside Assistance).
We recommend educating yourself to find out what your coverage includes before you get to the counter so you don’t buy something you already have. Or even worse, assuming you are covered for something you may not have.
There are so many locations across the United States that you’ll need to check at the rental counter when you pick up your Jeep about any road restrictions to the specific area you visit. Some roads are not safe because of the weather, and others that rental companies will not allow their vehicles to traverse. No worries as the company will provide this information to you. If you take your vehicle on a restricted road or in a restricted region, you will have negated your Jeep rental contract.
Your rental will be a current model Jeep with automatic transmission and air conditioning. Because car companies often own multiple cars in vehicle classes, the exact model may not be on their lot when you arrive to pick up your Jeep. “Or similar” accompanies each pictured rental to alert you that the rental companies will work with you, the customer, to accommodate your needs when unexpected circumstances occur. Rental companies will first offer you a vehicle from any vehicle class exceeding the one you booked, at the original price you agreed to online if your preferred Jeep is not available when you arrive. When you accept their assigned upgrade over your initially chosen car, you will pay no extra fees. Your other options are to wait for the original vehicle you booked to be ready for rental or take another car of your choice and renegotiate the new price for this rental.
When you’re on a tight budget and price is more important than the car you rent, yes! And, if you like surprises, yes! However, be mindful that the rental company’s counterperson is in the driver’s seat when you choose a rental markdown like one of the above.
Your transportation will be pre-selected for you based on what’s most available or whatever choice is convenient for the company. Having them offer you a Jeep is unlikely.
If you are one or two people with one bag just wanting to get from here to there, and willing to do that in a small vehicle or a 12-passenger van, rental car specials can offer significant savings. Yet, we suggest you think out the limited options of no-choice bargains if you expect tight parking, have more than minimal luggage or plan to accommodate several people in the car.
A super-deal, assigned car that you must refuse for any reason can lead to wasted time and money. The counterperson can only offer you an “upgrade” of the larger or smaller vehicle you require, so you’ll pay the day’s current price for your selection. Because you are making the rental at the counter, you will be choosing from a small inventory of non-reserved cars. It would be a miracle if Jeeps or other fun vehicles are available.
Extra Fees at the Counter
We suggest you read your vehicle rental agreement before you pick up your rental Jeep. For example, Budget Car Rental offers four refueling options, and Alamo has two. You might decide to return the vehicle with a full tank, a partial tank, or an empty tank based on several considerations. Don’t forget to allow for the time it takes between saying goodbye to your Jeep and arriving at your flight’s departure gate.
The following are a few thoughts we have on choosing Fuel Options. How easily can you find a fueling station in an unfamiliar area, possibly in heavy traffic? Will you feel safe refueling within the (maximum) allowed 10-miles of the Rental Return area? What about at night? During the late-night or early morning will stations be open? Are you on a relaxed or busy schedule? In case of a wayward fuel incident, will you have alternate travel clothes?
If you choose to return your Jeep with a full tank of gas, purchase the gas shortly before returning your Jeep. Keep and show the Rental Return personnel your fuel receipt.
There are several phone apps that are free to download. One we like is Gas Buddy. Like most gas apps, prices are more current around interstates and busy intersections.
Costco is always a well-priced option for fuel. Not all warehouses have fueling stations, and membership is required for purchases. In larger cities, there’s usually a Costco near the airport.
If you are accustomed to driving with GPS and will be in unfamiliar territory, you’ll like having the optional add-on in your Jeep. Car rental companies offer GPS devices at their counters. They are generally very affordable– just a few dollars a day.
Map apps on smartphones work exceptionally well for getting driving directions. An extra charging cord that plugs into the lighter socket or USB port is helpful to bring along. Jeeps customarily have one USB port built into the dash, so the lighter socket adapter option is handy if a passenger also needs to charge their phone in the Jeep.
Yes, they do. The price for a child safety seat starts as low as $10 a day. Most car seats for babies and kids average around $13 a day. You can’t request a car seat when you make your Jeep reservation. The companies provide the seats on a first-come basis. We recommend calling your Jeep rental location if you need further details.
Each rental company offers a range of children’s seat sizes, from as few as three (Booster, Infant, and Child) choices to Avis’s five sizes (2 Rear Facing, 1 forward Facing, and 2 Boosters) at most U.S. locations.
While every car company meets national safety regulations, it is up to you, the user, to make sure the seat is installed correctly in the Jeep you’ll be driving.
If you are more comfortable bringing your child’s car seat from home, that is undoubtedly a money-saving advantage that adds some inconvenience, primarily at the airport. Check with your airline to see if they’ll fly your kiddo’s car seat for free. They may even wrap it in plastic for you.
Jeeps, as well as all cars, are rented in 24-hour allotments through auto rental companies. When you make your vehicle reservation, allow for time to deplane, pick up baggage, and arrive at your Jeep rental counter. If all goes well, your return trip timetable will coincide with your pickup time.
Late fees can be avoided by carefully reading your reservation contract. Most importantly: Call the rental desk if you anticipate arriving before or after your scheduled pickup or dropoff time. While Avis requires you to call for any reason, Budget allows a 29 minute grace period for returns. Compounding Hourly Fees and Late Fees can add up fast.
Rental companies do not benefit from early returns. The customer can expect an additional fee, not a refund when shortening the rental contract. Returning a car a day early, for example, is an inconvenience because that car is unlikely to be rentable for one day and will take up space on the lot.
When a customer’s late arrival is due to airline lateness, the car rental company will generously work to provide the reserved vehicle for that customer.
Our Added Benefits
Besides providing rock-bottom pricing on rental Jeeps, we have additional benefits that the major car companies we work with reserve just for us. These customer bonuses are pretty sweet and not generally available from the companies themselves.
For those who don’t wish to be full-time chauffeurs, we offer a Free Extra Drivers amenity. For those who plan on sharing the driving, savings add up quickly when the Jeep rental is for several days.
Sharing the driving may not be something you’d plan on doing. However, by taking advantage of the Free Extra Drivers option when you reserve your Jeep, the primary driver is relieved from always being behind the wheel. Yes, sunglasses get left behind. Headaches happen. Kids can stay in the pool with one parent while the other runs errands. For convenience, we suggest you take advantage of the Free Extra Drivers option.
Young Drivers can especially benefit from renting through us. “Underage Drivers” (20-24) rates unfortunately always include additional fees. We offer savings that run a half to 1/3 below the standard fee rate. This unavoidable fee adds up quickly when you’re renting a Jeep for several days. By renting through us, you can keep these fees to a minimum.
Other Rental Jeep Questions
Unfortunately, no. Fees and extra charges will most likely nullify those savings when you reserve your Jeep for additional or fewer days than the vehicle will be in your possession.
We always recommend that you make your reservation for the exact times and dates you’ll need your Jeep. If your plane arrives at 10:00 am, you might list your car rental pick up for 11:00 am to allow for getting off the plane and over to the car rental counter. Subsequently, if your plane leaves at 2:00 pm, you can list your dropoff time at 11:00 am. You’ll exactly meet the car rental standard 24-hour window. The same advice goes for listing your dates. Don’t plan to say you’re staying for a week if you’re going to return the car after four days.
“Can I Be Charged Early Return or Late Return Fees?’, is also covered elsewhere in our FAQ. Non-scheduled pickups and returns offer no financial advantage to the rental car companies. Explanations in all their contracts note that your non-negotiated arrival breaks your agreement with them. They’ll charge accordingly.
When unplanned events or emergencies arise that cause you to change your plans, do call your car rental counter immediately (they are real people), and they will work with your change of plans.
Is it possible to extend or shorten your stay to take advantage of the longer-term savings? Altering plans only makes sense when airfare and lodging are a bargain, and if work and home schedules are flexible, or your next destination is adjustable.
Remember that this website offers the lowest prices available for your Jeep rental, regardless of the length of time you reserve it. Make your reservation for the actual dates and times you’ll need the vehicle.

National car rental companies treat each reservation separately. It would be great if customers benefited from the ease and savings when booking multiple rentals that originate in different locations. And, for those planning multi-destination trips, multiple booking options would be very convenient.
Our suggested alternative is booking each vehicle individually on the website that saves you the most money, regardless of your length of stay, the number of reservations made, or expirable points collected. We strive to make our reservation system quick, simple to understand, with minimal questions, no obligations, and the lowest Jeep rental prices available.
